Starting of the tour is the whale watching experience. You’ll head out over Kaikōura’s Whale Sanctuary and Hikurangi Marine Reserve to view the incredible wildlife found in Kaikōura’s waters from above. Experience the magnificent sperm whale, the largest toothed whale of up to 20m as well as other species, based on the season, as Kaikōura is a migratory route for a variety of different whale and dolphin species such as the humpback whale, blue whale, southern right whale, orca, and many more.
The manoeuvrability of the helicopter allows for incredible viewing and photo opportunities - you can see the entire whale from tip to tail, and also witness amazing behaviours of the animals you wouldn’t be able to see from a boat. Closer to the shore, you’ll also be able to spot the resident dusky dolphin and New Zealand fur seals playing.
After observing and exploring the abundant marine life, your helicopter will take you further north along the rugged Kaikōura coastline. Then, ascend into the majestic Seaward Kaikōura Ranges for a scenic alpine landing. Here, you'll be treated to breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape — from the dramatic peaks and valleys of the ranges to the Kaikōura Peninsula and the vast Pacific Ocean.
