Sustainability

Sustainability is one of the core values of our company. We are incredibly lucky to call Kaikōura our home. Not only is it a hotspot for marine wildlife, Kaikōura also has unique geology and alpine environments. We aim to show off this incredible land, allowing our guests to experience the wonder and beauty of Kaikōura and its marine residents in their natural environment, while actively reducing our impact on the environment.

Introduction

Kaitiakitanga

The Māori culture advocates the belief of Kaitiakitanga, that we are closely connected to the land and nature and are in charge of maintaining the health and wellbeing of the environment.

We strive to maintain green practices in our everyday operations through the little things like reducing our waste with recycling and eco-friendly cleaning products, as well the larger things such as investing in more modern aircraft to reduce noise and emissions.

South Pacific Helicopters and Wings Over Whales actively support conservation projects by working closely with the Department of Conservation and the Shearwater Trust, and we have recently partnered with Greenfleet to reduce our carbon footprint by replanting native trees.

+ Greenfleet is a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation with a mission to protect our climate by restoring our forests.

+ Greenfleet plants biodiverse native forests in Australia and New Zealand to offset carbon emissions on behalf of individuals and organisations.

+ Our forests sequester greenhouse gas emissions and help protect our environment against the impacts of climate change.

In addition to our contribution as a company to Greenfleet, we encourage our customers to contribute to the project as well, before or after your flight. Every dollar goes towards the restoration of native forests in New Zealand. See the Greenfleet website to view their work, as well as some tips to reduce your emissions as a traveler.
